It’s difficult to see but those looked like UN-crappy drawings to me, especially the one of Bill. I wish I could see what is written on those drawings.

For Don: Panel two: 1) Nice job on the flecks of color in the maddened eyes. 2) The food on the plate is blue? Is it Smurf?

LOL! nice twists & turns. Personally I hope the new Princes Gina will marry Bill - it would serve her right! Snicker

Great strip as usual. Man, she actually had nice drawing skills, but no one took notice, poor Gina. Is that Orko in the background getting his drink on, it is Orko…very nice. Nice shout outs to Olive Garden and A&W, they better recognize and send you a gift card at least. :)

@Old_Crow: 1) Thanks - Unfortunately a fair share of detail is lost when it’s resampled to 72 dpi. There’s actually a lot more texture in the strips of late that can’t be seen due to the resizing, but just wait until LoB #2 is out, then you should be able to see it.* 2) It looks blue to you? It’s more of a chartreuse (blue green) meant to be “Mysterious Inn Food”.

The text on the Bill portrait in the upper left corner says “Draw Billy”, the text at the bottom says “Art Instruction Schools”. On the Gina drawing it just says “Gina”. A spoof of those “Learn to Draw” ads that you see in magazines.

    * - I don’t know when LoB #2 is coming out, but it will.

Aw, poor Gina! I know how it feels when bar wenches won’t take into consideration how much time and effort is involved in drawing. =/
I love that Dark!Gina drew Bill as such a dastardly handsome devil. Oh-ho-ho! As always, love the details you put in all your panels! =D

Yowza! I can only imagine the rest of the back story that caused the bar wench to be having such a bad day. Maybe it’s just that she prefers the term bar maid .. ? The guys couldn’t have been that annoying .. heh.

    1) I thought THESE pictures would be magicly printed photographs.
    (Good quality art works too.)

    b) Who’s that in light blue over the server’s shoulder?
    Someone I should know?

Hey, shouldn’t the Skull doll be blue? I see Orko’s traipsed over into another universe. Must be good A&W beer there. Huh, never thought about it before, but is Gnoma from an off-shoot race of Trollans (totally superficial — small, pointy ears, powerful magic, blue skin)

And what is Gnoma doing here ? did Pewfell finally get rid of her - although, of course, I do suspect she actually has a crush on him (on Pewfell that is.. or maybe is she after Bill too) ah - never mind.

I agree, that picture of Bill is particularly dashing. Are you sure this isn’t the dark princess’ rendition of Bill?

Wow, that’s quite the flattering look for Bill in Gina’s picture. I woulda expected one that looked more like Sloth. Interesting.
Olive Garden salad but no breadsticks? I’m not eating at that place.

I don’t know most of the references you’re all talking about, but I know a skilled artist, a maniac barwench and a clueless wizard when I see them. :D

Isn’t one of the guests from HE-MAN? The little dude with the “0″ on his chest? Orko…ah. Now I remember. Many moons pass over big river since Chief Sitting Duck see him. Chief know now he getting old. ;)

orko, gnoma and paddington teddy cameos (the paddington teddy in the sleeping guard’s arms is a particularly cute touch, but i’d have saved gnoma for another strip, she’s crowded in here making the panel too busy)…while mocking product placement in the last two comics? hilarious.

i also loved that gina’s perception of bill on paper is actually more handsome than the reality. this answers our question of whether beneath that surface of being constantly driven nuts by him, does she genuinely like him as well - ding ding ding, she does! how can she, she’s a smart cookie and he’s a moron. but a lovable moron, i suppose.

don, re: “Mysterious Inn Food” — i prefer this too look like meat and potatoes, what we expect at an inn in a fantasy story. there’s enough whackness going on in the comic in general and a bit of the ordinary makes it stand out in contrast. but if everything’s turned on its head, orko in the background loses some of the magic. just my feeling on this.

FANTASTIC comments, team! I LOVE how so many of you are looking deeply into the details, finding clues and items of interest in the most minute things… because I confess… each minute detail usually does indeed mean somehting wehen I do it. ;-)
LoB readers - the most perceptive bunch o’ peeps around!!!!!!!!!
    And MOnday… a frisky knight re-appears! ;-)

I prefer this frisky knight will go after the real Gina next… with much the same result, possibly with a little magic mutation mixed in.

@spas - the whole point of the strip is the unexpected, everywhere one can cram it in. If David isn’t a Jungian ENFP (as many cartoonists are), then he likely has many ENFP friends, and we’re ALL screwballs. Turning anything and everything on its ear is our stock in trade.

Which, of course, isn’t always to the taste of the other fifteen Jungian personality types. :)

Just noting the comment on the resampling to 72 DPI comment, recently I read a good article or two on how that concept might be false, they seemed pretty logical to me, so perhaps that loss of quality might not be required in the future if that is true. Instead sampling a bit higher but still ensuring that the size of the images doesn’t become to huge for quick-ish loading?

http://www.scantips.com/no72dpi.html - is the link to the sight, of course take internet stuff with a grain of digital salt :D

@Andrew W - I remember reading that article some time ago, and what he’s saying is true. The DPI setting is for printing only, and doesn’t affect the size of an image displayed on the screen (I think he repeats that idea a few times ;). What I should have said was that “when the image is resampled to web resolution”. The strips are HUGE (Roughly 4200 x 1300) and are set to 300dpi for printing. After I color them, David scales it down to 892×290 - a mere 4.5% of its former area, which is why so much detail is lost. Thankfully when it’s printed in comic book form you can see all of the loving details.
